Welcome, everyone, to English 1010--the Internet version. To get started in the class, follow the instructions at the bottom of this page. After you log on to our class web site, read the syllabus and course description immediately. Make sure you read the course description right away. Please note that you will not be able to access our class until your names have been entered into our class database. Your name will be entered in the database several days before the semester begins.

To make access to our assignments easy, I have created links to them in our syllabus. Just click on the appropriate link and a window will open asking you what you want to do with the file. Usually, you will need to save it to some folder or your desktop. From there you can double click it to open the file.

We will use Microsoft Word in this class, so be sure that you have access to a recent version of that word processor. No other word processor will work for this class.

Our first written assignment for the semester will be to introduce yourself to your classmates. Go to our discussion board to do this as soon as you can sign in.

Email me using your own email system. If you haven’t already, email me a message so that I can record your email address in my email address book. Send me the message today, and check your email every day throughout the semester because I frequently send messages to the class.

Check out the "Sites" button. It contains a link to the College's writing center; it also contains some valuable information about writing in general.

Finally, things can be a bit frustrating during the first couple of weeks. Some of you are waiting for books or software to be sent to you. Others have never taken an Internet course before and so forth. Such frustration is natural, so just bear with it, and soon enough everything will go smoothly.

Whenever you have any questions, email me at jantzen@dixie.edu or call me at (435) 652-7828 or toll-free at 1-877-DIXIE-50 (1-877-349-4350).
