Introduction to Chemistry
Course Introduction: CHEM 1010 "Introduction to Chemistry" fills one of the Physical Science requirements for General Education at all colleges and universities in the State of Utah. It is a three credit semester course. This course is completely online. A textbook is optional for the course if students feel they need it but is not required. This online course teaches students about how chemistry related to their daily lives. It covers the basic from atoms and molecules to the chemical reactions required for living cells to survive. Basic organic chemistry is also covered. The course requires a connection to the internet and a basic Periodic Table that can be purchased at any bookstore or department store. The math used in this course requires basic arithmetic skills (adding, subtracting, multipling, and dividing only), so an inexpensive calculator is required as well.
Expectations: Grading for the course comes from students' scores on lecture section exams and the final exam. Lectures are divided into lecture sections with 2-4 lectures per section. Each lecture has an online quiz cooresponding to it which does not count toward students' grades and can be taken as many times as needed. Each lecture section (2-4 lectures) has one exam related to it. All exams must be completed by the deadlines listed in the Calendar section of the website.
