Policy: BUDGET PROCESS
6-11 BUDGET PROCESS
11.1 The following principles guide the budget building process at Dixie State College:
11.1.1 Budget building is participatory, allowing for input from faculty, staff, and administration.
11.1.2 Budget building is linked to Dixie State’s mission and strategic planning, and allocations are made in harmony with the mission and strategic planning.
11.2 The process involves the following steps:
11.2.1 College administrators seek revenues from a variety of sources, including allocation of state funds and donations.
11.2.2 During October or November – Request forms are distributed to budget directors, and budget directors see that faculty and staff have the opportunity to give input in the preparation of budget requests.
11.2.3 In mid-December – Request forms are completed and returned to the appropriate Vice President or Dean for review, approval and prioritization.
11.2.4 In January – Certain types of requests are sent to the following persons, with copies of the originals forwarded to the Business Office:
18.104.22.168 Copies of request forms for computers are sent to the Dean of Computer Information Technology, who will determine if the computer needs can be filled internally and if the hardware requested is appropriate for the purpose specified.
22.214.171.124 Copies of request forms for Alterations, Repairs and Improvements will be sent to the Executive Director of the Physical Plant, who will determine if the costs of the project are reasonable.
126.96.36.199 Copies of request forms for changes in existing personnel positions should be sent to the Executive Director of Human Resources, who will review them to determine if costs are appropriate.
11.2.5 In mid-February - All forms are sent to the Executive Director of Business Affairs. This includes all forms previously sent to the Dean of Computer Information Technology, the Executive Director of Physical Plant, and the Executive Director of Human Resources.
11.2.6 March - The President and Vice-presidents hold Budget request hearings with budget directors.
11.2.7 March or April - The president finalizes final budget allocations, and notification of approved budgets is sent to budget directors.
