Policy: ACADEMIC ASSESSMENT

5-6       ACADEMIC ASSESSMENT

I.          An Academic placement exam is required of all new matriculating students (students seeking a certificate or degree). Students may meet this requirement by:

   A.    Taking the American College Test (ACT), Scholastic Achievement Test (SAT), or Accuplacer (CPT) Test.

i.      Any single portion of the Accuplacer Test may only be taken once in every 30 day period.

   B.    Sending those test results to the Dixie State College Admission Office.

i.        The College will not use a math score for placement if the test was taken more than two years previous to enrollment in a math course.

a.       Students with math scores older than two years must retake that portion of the exam.

II.         Placement test scores are used to place students into appropriate levels in a variety of courses.

   A.    If a student has multiple scores on one test, or multiple scores on different tests, the highest score will be used for placement.

   B.    Placement scores may indicate that a student must take a developmental level course(s).

   C.    Placement levels for all test scores are reviewed annually by the College's Academic Council.

   D.    Current placement levels for scores are available in the College catalog.
