Policy:   ADMISSION TO THE INSTITUTION

 

5-2            ADMISSION TO THE INSTITUTION

 

2.1              The institution admits qualified students without regard to age, race, color, religion, gender, national or ethnic origin, pregnancy, childbirth, pregnancy-related conditions, disability, veteran status, or otherwise provided by law.

 

2.2              All students who plan to register at the institution must complete an application for admission and pay a non-refundable application admissions fee.

 

2.3              To be admitted in a bachelor degree program, a currently matriculated Dixie State College student must participate in a secondary departmental admissions process, and be selected into the program by all departmental deadlines.

 

2.3.1        A student not currently matriculated at Dixie State College must be officially admitted to the College before participating in departmental admissions process.

 

2.4              To be admitted in an associate degree program or certificate program,

 

2.4.1        An applicant must receive a high school diploma or its recognized equivalents. Recognized equivalents include:

 

2.4.1.1              Passing the GED test.

 

2.4.1.2 Early Admission.  A student who has excelled in high school and is considered academically prepared for college may be released early by their principal or school counselor.

 

2.4.1.2.1 High school students who have excelled in school and are thereby released from further public schooling must provide a letter of release from their principal and/or counselor, as well as written authorization from their parent/guardian.

 

2.4.1.3 Home school certification.  Students who have been home schooled (and released from public schooling) may certify that they have completed the equivalent of a high school diploma.

 

2.4.1.3.1 Home schooled students must provide a letter of release from their local school district, and a signed statement by their parent/guardian certifying that they have completed the equivalent of a high school diploma.

 

2.4.1.4 Beyond the age of compulsory education.

 

2.4.2        An applicant must complete the institution's admission form and pay a non-refundable application fee.

 

2.4.3        Furnish official high school transcripts to the Office of the Registrar.

 

2.4.3.1              If the student's cohort graduation class has been out of high school for at least seven years, the student can submit either an official high school transcript or a copy of his or her high school diploma, or submit a written statement confirming the graduation date and location.

 

2.4.3.2              If a student has 25 or more college credits a high school transcript will not be required for admission.

 

2.4.4        Furnish all college transcripts to the Office of the Registrar.

 

2.4.5        Submit test scores from one of the following:  ACT, SAT, CPT, or COMPASS. These tests are administered in the college testing center or at other facilities.  See Academic Assessment Policy 5-6 for placement specifications.

 

2.5              To be admitted as a non-matriculated student, an individual must:

 

2.5.1        Complete the institution's admission form and pay a non-refundable application fee.

 

2.5.2        Although not required, applicants in this category are encouraged to submit ACT or SAT, and CPT or COMPASS test scores to facilitate the advisement process.

 

2.5.3        Non-matriculated students wishing to matriculate into degree seeking programs must complete the requirements as listed in 2.3 above.

 

2.5.4        Students currently seeking high school diplomas through the adult education program at the institution must be admitted as non-matriculated students.

 

2.5.5        Students enrolling in the "Three Credits or Less" program must be formally admitted by the above guidelines.  Since they do not pay student fees, they will not be issued a student I.D. card, but may purchase one for an additional cost.

 

2.5.5.1              The resident and non-resident tuition and fee schedule will apply.

 

2.5.6        Senior citizens 62 years or older who are Utah residents and who wish to participate in the House Bill 60 Program, must be admitted as non-matriculated students and must fill the requirements for non-matriculated students.

 

2.6              Transfer Applicants

 

2.6.1        To be considered for admission to the institution from another institution of higher education, a student must:

 

2.6.1.1              Submit an application for admission and pay the admission fee.

 

2.6.1.2      Submit official transcripts from all previous colleges.

 

2.6.1.3              Be in good academic standing with no documented disciplinary problems at a previous institution.

 

2.6.1.4              If a student does not have 25 or more college credits, a high school transcript and ACT, CPT, SAT or COMPASS score will be required for admission.

 

2.7              International Student Applicants

 

2.7.1        International student applicants must meet the following requirements prior to the semester they wish to attend and be in compliance with all federal regulations:

 

2.7.1.1              Submit an international student admissions application with a non-refundable application fee.

 

2.7.1.2              Submit TOEFL scores or Michigan Proficiency Test scores that meet the minimum institutional requirement.  Test scores must be sent directly from the testing center to the Office of the Registrar.

 

2.7.1.3              Submit a financial statement, in U.S. currency, verifying the institution's minimum requirement for educational and living expenses per year.

 

2.7.1.4              Submit official transcripts of all educational institutions attended.

 

2.7.1.5              Submit a statement of good health signed by a licensed physician.  The state of Utah requires all international students be tested for tuberculosis.

 

2.7.1.6              Submit two letters of recommendation from certified school officials.

 


2.7.1.7 After all requirements are met, an I-20 eligibility form will be sent to the student.  A student must register for college within 60 days after receiving the I-20 form.

 

2.7.1.8 International students are required to purchase the Group Hospitalization, Medical Evacuation, and Repatriation Insurance Plan provided through the institution at the time of registration.

 

2.8              Veteran Applicants

 

2.8.1        Students who are eligible for the Montgomery GI Bill or other veteran assistance must complete appropriate paperwork with the veteran's coordinator along with the appropriate admissions requirements as listed above.

 

2.9              University Center Students

 

2.9.1        Students who are enrolled in any University Center Program offered at Dixie State College will not be required to complete a Dixie application unless they are also enrolled at Dixie State College.  These students will be required to pay a nominal fee for a student activity card if they wish to participate in school activities.  University Center students may apply to the library for a card.

 

2.10          Readmission Applicants

 

2.10.1    Students who interrupt their continuous enrollment by not registering for two or more semesters sequentially, with the exception of summer semester, must apply for readmission.  To apply, applicants must complete the following steps:

 

2.10.1.1          Submit a readmission application.

 

2.10.1.2          Pay the readmission fee.

 

2.10.1.3 Students who have attended another institution while absent from Dixie State College must also provide official transcripts from any colleges or universities attended.

 

2.11          All Other Applicants

 

2.11.1         All other types of admissions will be considered on an individual basis by the Director of Admissions and Records.
