4-3 EMPLOYMENT STATUS
3.1 Full-time Faculty (Tenured and Non-tenured):
3.1.1 Are typically assigned a workload of 30 credits per year for two semesters per year, and are employed on a contracted, budgeted basis.
3.1.2 Are eligible for full benefits, including an activity card, retirement, medical, dental, long-term disability, life insurance and tuition waivers and vacation and sick leave. (See Benefits and Payroll Deductions Policy.)
3.1.3 Are salaried according to the College Faculty salary schedule/formula.
3.1.4 Do not accrue sick leave or vacation time.
3.2 Adjunct Faculty:
3.2.1 Teach less than a .75 FTE, 22 credits or less per year, and are employed on a semester-by-semester, non-budgeted basis as agreed upon and quoted on an Adjunct Faculty Appointment form.
3.2.2 Are eligible for a faculty activity card and a non-transferable tuition waiver for three credits or less of Dixie State College courses for the semesters they teach.
3.2.3 Do not accrue sick leave and vacation time.
3.2.4 Do not receive medical, dental, long-term disability, life insurance or retirement benefits from the College.
3.2.5 Wage rates may be reconsidered annually and are approved by the Executive Council and the President.
3.3 Temporary Faculty:
3.3.1 Are hired on a short-term, replacement basis and typically teach for one semester, but may teach two.
3.3.2 Are eligible for a faculty activity card and a non-transferable tuition waiver for three credits or less of Dixie State College courses for the semesters they teach and on a space available basis.
3.3.3 Do not accrue sick leave and vacation time.
3.3.4 Do not receive medical, dental, long-term disability, life insurance or retirement benefits from the College if they only teach full-time for one semester per year.
3.3.5 Salaries are set, at hire, by appropriate Division Dean and the Vice President of Academics and are approved by the President.
3.4 Regular Full-time Non-Faculty Employees:
3.4.1 Are assigned to .75 to 1.0 FTE (Full-Time Equivalency) budgeted positions.
3.4.1.1 The FTE can be accomplished in various ways, such as at least 30 hours per week for 12 months, or 40 hours per week for at least 9 months, or at least 1,566 hours per year.
3.4.2 Can be paid on either an hourly or salaried basis.
3.4.3 Must satisfactorily complete a one year probationary period.
3.4.3.1 During probation an employee may be terminated with or without cause.
3.4.3.2 Before the end of probation, the supervisor will complete a performance evaluation on the new employee.
3.4.4 Are eligible for full benefits, including an activity card, retirement, medical, dental, long-term disability, life insurance and tuition waivers and accrue vacation and sick leave. (See Benefits Policy 4-15)
3.4.5 Are classified and salaried according to the Dixie State College Staff Job Classification System and Salary Schedule.
3.5 Regular, Part-time, Non-Faculty, Hourly, Employees:
3.5.1 Work less than 1,500 hours per year or hold less than .75 FTE budgeted positions, but, have worked more than 9 months and over .50fte per year.
3.5.1.1 Those employees hired before the establishment of this policy will maintain their status and related benefits, if they remain in the same position.
3.5.2 Are paid on an hourly basis.
3.5.3 Are classified as "employees-at-will".
3.5.4 Are eligible for an employee staff activity card, family activities pass, and tuition waiver for three credits or less of Dixie State College classes, if taken during non-working hours.
3.5.5 Are not eligible for College full-time employee benefits.
3.5.6 Wages are based on market surveys and a schedule revised and accepted annually by the Executive Council.
3.6 Temporary or Seasonal, Non-Faculty, Hourly, Employees:
3.6.1 To be classified as temporary an employee fits one of the following categories:
3.6.1.1 Works less than six months full-time (more than .75 FTE);
3.6.1.2 Works less than nine months at more than .50 FTE, but less than .75 FTE;
3.6.1.3 Works ongoing less than .50 FTE.
3.6.2 An attempt will be made to fill positions under this category, which do not require technical skills, with student workers.
3.6.3 Are not eligible for College benefits.
3.6.4 Wage rates are determined by market survey, the department supervisor and the Human Resource Office.
3.6.5 A full-time position's change in status from temporary to permanent must be approved by the College Council and the President.
3.6.6 Are categorized as "employees-at-will".
3.7 Student Employees:
3.7.1 To be categorized as a student employee, one must be registered for at least 6 hours of classes in the semester s/he is working.
3.7.2 Are not eligible for retirement and are also not eligible for FICA if they work fewer than 20 hours per week.
3.7.3 Those hired on a temporary or seasonal basis are not eligible for College benefits, except those required by law, such as Worker's Compensation.
3.7.4 Wage rates are set at minimum wage or by the Human Resource Office and the department supervisor.
3.8 Contracted Services:
3.8.1 Contracted Services workers are not considered employees of Dixie State College.
3.8.1.1 Terms of service are stipulated on a contracted services form.
3.8.1.2 They do not receive any benefits from the College.
3.8.2 Payment for services are negotiated or determined by the department supervisor and the budget director.
