4-2 EMPLOYMENT CATEGORIES
2.1 Faculty
Academic assignments at the College, customarily for the purpose of instruction and public service. This category typically includes professors, assistant professors, associate professors, instructors and adjuncts.
2.2 Executive
Assignments, the primary responsibilities of which are executive or administrative, including the President and other executive officers as designated by the President. This category typically includes vice presidents, deans and those with the title of Executive. (Department Chairs, Division Deans and the Academic Vice President will retain tenured faculty status, if they transferred from a tenured position within the College.)
2.3 Administrative-Exempt
Assignments without academic appointment, the primary duties and responsibilities are in management of the institution, or a customarily recognized department or subdivision, requiring high level administrative skills.
2.4 Professional-Exempt
Assignments which require knowledge customarily acquired by a prolonged course of specialized instruction of an advanced type, in a field of science, learning, computer systems analysis, programming or software engineering, or whose work is original or creative in nature. This includes librarians, accountants and computer analysts. Professional in this classification are defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act.
2.5 Technical/Paraprofessional-Non-Exempt
Assignments requiring specialized knowledge and skills, institutionally defined as technical. Paraprofessional assignments are those which perform many professional tasks, but do not meet government definitions of either administrative or professional.
2.6 Clerical/Secretarial-Non-Exempt
Assignments which are typically associated with clerical activities or are specifically of a secretarial nature.
2.7 Skilled Craft-Non-Exempt
Assignments which typically require special manual, mechanical skills and a thorough and comprehensive knowledge of the processes involved in the work.
2.8 Maintenance/Service-Non-Exempt
Assignments which result in, or contribute to, service, comfort, convenience and hygiene of the students, personnel, and the public or which contribute to the upkeep and care of facilities or grounds.
