POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

 

Faculty Position:    PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSISTANT--PROGRAM COORDINATOR

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop and implement a new Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) Program that is scheduled to start in August 2009.  Responsibilities will include: organizing, administering, reviewing, developing, and assuring program effectiveness; teaching program courses; assuming the leadership role in the continued development of the program; evaluating and assuring educational effectiveness; and participating in budget planning and development.

·        Assist the Dean and Associate Dean in development and maintenance of the Physical Therapy Assistant program.

·        Administer and supervise the development, implementation, and evaluation of curricula, including preparation of class and clinical instructional material, class schedules, and maintenance of desirable classroom, laboratory, and clinical conditions.

·        Recruit, assign, supervise, and evaluate PTA program faculty and staff.

·        Initiate, facilitate, and maintain liaison with community Physical Therapy and Physical Therapy Assistant professionals, educational programs, and advisory committee. 

·        Assist in the development of contracts with community health agencies. 

·        Assist with student recruitment, advisement, placement, and follow-up efforts.

·        Develop and supervise the PTA program admission policies and procedures, student evaluation, and retention process. 

·        Provide course instruction and clinical supervision.  Prepare and administer budget.

·        Assist in achieving CAPTE accreditation criteria within two years and ensure continuing accreditation.

·        Prepare reports required by internal and external agencies and departments.

·        Improve professionally and maintain currency in the field.

·        Serve on committees as assigned and attend faculty/department meetings as required.

·        May require evening and Saturday instruction in class and clinical.

·        Assist the Dean and Associate Dean with other duties as assigned.      

 

Minimum Qualifications:

·        Physical Therapist or Physical Therapy Assistant with a minimum of a master’s degree.

·        Certification as a Physical Therapist or Physical Therapy Assistant by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy 

·        Five (5) years of experience as a physical therapist.

·        Experience in administration; educational theory and methodology; instructional design and methodology; and student evaluation and outcomes assessment.  

·        Two (2) years of documented experience as an instructor in a CAPTE accredited Physical Therapist Assistant or Physical Therapy program preferred.

·        Must hold current Utah State Physical Therapist license or meet Utah Physical Therapy Licensing Board requirements; licensure for Physical Therapy Assistant currently not required in the state of Utah.

·        Demonstrated commitment to work collaboratively with community health care providers.

·        Commitment to academic excellence and exceptional service; proven effectiveness in allocating and managing resources; skills necessary to utilize computer-related technologies to enhance education methodology; proficiency in curriculum design, program administration, program evaluation, instruction, student guidance, and academic counseling.

·        Knowledge of program related revenue, costs, and benefits, evidence of proficiency in budgeting and cost/benefit analyses; supervisory experience.

 

Terms of Contract: 3 semester, tenure track faculty position.  Salary is based on nationally competitive Dixie State College faculty salary schedule.  Excellent benefit package included.
