POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

 

Position:         DEAN OF SCIENCES & HEALTH

 

Responsibilities:

 

·         Provides leadership in the teaching program of the college, including the maintenance of high quality teaching and student advisement activities, professional development activities, and the integration of the curricula within the college.

·         Provides leadership and coordination for professional creative activities within the college in cooperation with the Vice President of Academic Services.

·         Represents the college faculty in administrative matters.

·         Prepares budget requests for the college and, in cooperation with the institutional administration, allocates the available among the various departments.

·         Recommends faculty hiring, duties, advancement in rank, and award of tenure.

·         Recommends, in consultation with department faculties, the appointment, retention, or termination of department chairs.

·         Arranges for adequate and suitable faculty office, laboratory, and classroom space.

·         Advises and counsels department chairs on all matters pertaining to their responsibilities.

·         Explores and develops interdisciplinary programs with other deans or administrators and recommends such programs to the administration.

·         Coordinates with the vice president of student services regarding student activities in their academic units.  Coordinates with the vice president of college services regarding business and physical facilities programs in their academic units.

·         Represents the institution on state, regional, and national assignment where appropriate.

 

Qualifications:

 

·         Terminal degree in a discipline of the division is required.

·         A minimum of two to five years of progressively more responsible experience as an academic administrator is preferred.

·         Successful leadership in accreditation and program development.

·         Classroom teaching experience in higher education is required.

·         Highly developed communication and planning skills required.

·         Skills in initiating, directing, managing, and performing activities that fully impact a department, the division, the school, and the college.

·         Effective organizational skills and the ability to provide leadership for faculty and staff in new program development and activities.

·         Understanding of instructional technology and its impact on curricula.

·         Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with students, faculty, staff and administrators.

 

Terms of Contract:  Executive position, full-time (12 months).  Salary is nationally competitive.  Excellent benefit package included.
