Respiratory Therapy Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to complete all of my prerequisites before I apply to the program?

No, you must complete all prerequisites before you begin the Respiratory Therapy program but you may apply if you think you will be able to complete all prerequisites before you actually begin the program.

What are the class schedules like?

Schedules may change, but we have had our students in class on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm during the first, second and third semesters. The first semester has more class time and no time in the hospitals, so the schedule include a half-day on Thursday. The fourth semester has classes on Wednesday only, from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.

What is the clinical schedule like?

Students are required to complete at least 225 hours of actual time in the hospitals during the second and third semesters, and 300 hours during the final semester. Students work 12-hour shifts in the hospital, and they are able to request specific days and shifts. The first two semesters students work 19-20 shifts during 15 weeks; the final semester students must work about 27-30 shifts (some are 12-hour shifts, others are only 8-hours).
