Certified Nursing Assistant Student Learning Outcomes

Student learning outcomes are statements that specify what faculty want students to learn or be able to do as a result of successfully completing the Certified Nursing Assistant Course. Student learning outcomes are clear, concise statements that describe how students can demonstrate their mastery of program skills.

Upon completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant Course, students will be able to:

  1. Successfully complete the Utah State certification written and skills tests.
  2. Function effectively as an entry-level nursing assistant.
  3. Follow safety and infection control procedures for protection of patients, self, and others.
  4. Apply specialized job skills and abilities that may be required in the sub acute care, long term care, individual’s home, and hospital settings.
  5. Recognize and report changes and abnormalities to the nurse or primary healthcare provider.
  6. Provide considered and respectful care of patients by complying with patient rights.
  7. Utilize effective communication techniques with patients and members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  8. Follow HIPAA guidelines for the protection of patient confidentiality.
  9. Use components of restorative and rehabilitation nursing care.
