EMS 1200/Emergency Medical Training (EMT-I) - Credits: 4.5
This course allows Basic Emergency Medical Technicians to continue their training in the areas of: extended patient assessment, Intravenous (IV) initiation and therapy, medical and legal considerations, advanced shock, pediatric vascular access, drug management of selected drugs, EKG management and recognition, and oral intubation.
Course Offered:
The EMT-Intermediate course is offered during the summer semester and goes for 8 weeks. The class meets on Monday & Wednesday from 6pm to 10pm.
Pre-requisites:
You must be EMT-Basic certified before taking this course. If you didn't receive your EMT-Basic certification through Dixie State College, you will need to bring an Add Card to be signed by the Instructor along with proof of EMT certification to either Shanna Alger, EMS Director or the EMS Secretary in order to register for the class.

According to the 2009-2010 Tuition & Fee Schedule for Dixie State College, the cost of the EMT-Intermediate course is:

Max. # of Students:
We are only allowed to have up to 20 students in each EMT- I class.
Employment:
The average starting salary for EMT-Intermediates can range from $10 - $15/hour. EMT-Intermediates are very useful to agencies everywhere because of their broad scope of practice compared to an EMT-Basic.
