Emergency Medical Technician- Basic
Course Description:
EMS 1100/Emergency Medical Training (EMT-B) Credits: 9.0
Presents instruction in theory and practice of first aid. Provides the student with knowledge and skill necessary to meet common emergencies associated with injury and illness. Topics include CPR, bone and joint injuries, dressings and bandages, sudden illness, and emergency childbirth. 9 lecture hours per week.

When Classes Are Offered
|
The EMT-Basic course is offered in the Spring & Fall semesters each year. The course is one semester long and meets every Monday & Wednesday from 6pm-10pm plus a couple Saturdays which will be scheduled in the course calendar given to students at the beginning of each course.

PreRequisites
|
There are no prerequisites to this course, however you will be required to submit a current TB test and proof of immunizations in the first 2 weeks of class.

According to the 2009-2010 Tuition & Fee Schedule for Dixie State College, the cost of the EMT-Basic program is:

Wait List
|
Due to the increasing number of students that sign up for this class each semester, the class fills up pretty quickly. We recommend registering for the class as soon as possible, but if it is full you can call the EMS Secretary and we will keep a waiting list honored in a first come, first served basis in case any spots open up.

Utah State Certification
|
Once you have completed the course, if you are in Good Standing, the Course Coordinator will recommend you to the UT Dept of Health, Bureau of EMS to be eligible for testing and then the student is responsible for scheduling a test date within 120 days of completing the course in order to receive State Certification. After 120 days, you will have to retake the course in order to test.
