is to prepare students for professional careers in music, to provide a high quality educational experience for all students, to serve as an educational and cultural resource for Dixie State College, the local community, and the region, and to develop character, dedication and excellence, and encourage lifelong learning.

There is a place for you in the Dixie State College Music Department! Performance opportunities abound. A faculty of accomplished musicians and dynamic teachers guide students.

The music department is committed to preparing students with the tools necessary to function as a musician on the performance hall, in the classroom, or for their own enjoyment. Dixie State College offers three music degrees: a Bachelor of Arts in Music, a Bachelor of Science in music, and a Bachelor of Science in Music Education. More information on the degrees can be found on this page.

A strong cohort of music majors study at Dixie State. Students from every department and program on campus contribute to music activities through performing with our ensembles. Curriculum and scheduling is designed to benefit students.

The Department of Music has a long tradition of excellence and as a cultural leader in the region. It is fortunate to be a valued department at Dixie State. The Music Department operates within the Fine Arts Division of the School of Arts and Letters at Dixie State College. Music students benefit from our association with the Southwest Symphony and Chorale,  the Heritage Choir, and from the many guest performer and masterclasses on campus.

The Music Department is housed in the Eccles Fine Arts Center on the northwest corner of campus. This 78,000 square foot building is shared with the theater program. The department also has the 1,200 seat Cox Auditorium, practice rooms, and rehearsal/classroom space in the Avenna Center. Plans are being developed to remodel an adjacent building to add 18,000 square feet of space devoted to the music department.
