Selections from the Collection
New acquisitions and favorites from the Dixie State College Permanent Art Collection will be exhibited. A new and exciting view is one of Edith Carlson’s elegant "abstract luminism" paintings. Over the years her work sold steadily among private collections and corporations. Galleries in the East, Southwest and the West Coast represented her.

Jeff Ham
Ceramics: The Firm: Shane Christensen, Brian Jensen, Stephen Heywood, & Michael Schmidt
Raw, bright, explosive colors are used to evoke emotion and draw attention to the subjects Jeff paints. “In my paintings everything becomes an iconic image, no setting or backgrounds. I paint what I love, people, animals and landscapes. I do my best to translate emotion and feelings into color as well as communicate my individual interpretation of each subject.” Jeff is the “artist to watch!”
The four members of The Firm have been showing as a group for several years as they formalize their fellowship in goals, art, profession, and media.. All are MFA graduates of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and are active in ceramics as well as teaching. Shane teaches at Snow Canyon High School and DSC. Brian teaches at Utah Valley University.

The Art Department of Dixie State College holds its annual exhibit to showcase the year’s work of the finest students as well as the work of alumni and faculty. The art students experience the benefits of learning to present themselves and their artwork in a professional manner and to improve their portfolios. It also provides DSC art professors and alumni an opportunity to show-off the work they have accomplished throughout the year. The Showcase is looking forward to a future time when it will highlight senior portfolios as graduates leave DSC with a 4-year degree in visual art. This exhibit is always a favorite.

J Kirk Richards (801-375-3455)
Reception: May 28, 7-9 p.m.
Figurative artist J. Kirk Richards is becoming increasingly known for his accomplishments as a painter of Judeo-Christian themes. While not all of his paintings are overtly religious, the majority of his themes stem from spiritual ideas and narratives. He continues to work in a surprising variety of styles, but most of his paintings exhibit a love for the human figure, general use of symbolism and metaphor, and an emphasis on lyric composition. Kirk has illustrated and written several children’s books, he has several cds out with his own compositions, and he also teaches art classes.
