| 1The
Biotechnology / Genetic Engineering pre-major focuses on the principles
of genetics and applied aspects of plant genetic improvement. Students
in this program take a variety of courses in both basic and applied biological
sciences and gain firsthand experience in plant molecular biology, biotechnology,
and genetic engineering, including procedures in the greenhouse and field.
Completion of a bachelor's degree (BS) in Biotechnology / Genetic Engineering
prepare students for employment, or for graduate studies in plant genetics,
breeding, and biotechnology. At USU the Crop Science Major contains
the Biotechnology/Research Option.
The Program

| 2All
Biotechnology / Genetic Engineering majors are required to complete a core
course bachelor's curriculum. If the student selects a two year program,
additional lower division course work must be taken at the college or university
to which they transfer. Because of the rigorous nature of the program,
the three year option is recommended for most students and include the
following curriculum depending on the program.
Additional Core Courses It is recommended that a catalog of the school transfer be obtained, and that you follow a selected program. Students should contact Dr. Robert E. Coombs, Plant Science Advisor, before registering for classes. |
| 3Students may begin at any MATH course level for which they are prepared including developmental courses designed for students not ready for college level courses. Students who have taken a year of calculus in high school and have a strong background in trigonometry may enroll in MATH 1220 their first semester at Dixie.
