Computer Literacy Test Out Options - The efficient use of a computer and its attending software is a skill set that is essential to a person's ability to communicate and function in a technology based world. Computer literacy is an institutional requirement that should be completed in the student’s first year at Dixie State College. DSC students have a credit and non-credit option to learn and/or show that they have this necessary skill set.
Credit Option: Students will complete coursework in four areas of instruction: computer concepts/operating systems/email, word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations. For this option, register for CIS 1200 and go to Blackboard on the first day of the semester for a complete orientation and schedule. Students choosing this option can test out of any area of the course at the beginning of the semester.
Non-Credit Options: Students who feel that they are literate in ALL of the above four areas, may schedule and take one challenge test (Option 1) or four challenge tests ( Option 2 ) covering each of the four areas. A score of 80% or above on each of the tests will certify the student's basic computer literacy skills. The CIS 1200 course will be waived and CIS 1201 with a Pass will be posted on transcript. This is not a recommended option for business students. If you are interested in exploring this option, contact Linda Rogers at rogersl@dixie.edu or Ember Mitchell at mitchell@dixie.edu.
