VITA Free Tax Prep



2011 Tax Year Statistics:

  • 1,858 tax returns completed
  • $3,619,857 in tax related funds back into the Dixie Community
  • 4,504 hours of donated service by students and faculty

What:

  • Free Tax Preparation services sponsored by Dixie State University, the IRS' volunteer income tax assistantance program, and the Five-County Association of Governments
  • Free e-file for Federal and State Tax Returns

Who:

  • Volunteers: Preparation services will be provided by IRS Certified Dixie State University Accounting Students, supervised by IRS and CPA certified Accounting faculty
  • Clients: Individuals of all ages with a wide range of tax-return scenarios are welcome, especially low- and middle-income individuals

When:

  • Starting Tuesday, February 5, 2013 and running through April 11, 2013 (excluding March 11-15, for DSU's Spring Break)
  • Tuesday through Thursday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM

Where:

  • Room 127 of the Udvar-Hazy building

Why:

  • Assist Accounting students in gaining practicial experience prior to first employment
  • Facilitate free-of-charge return of State and Federal Refunds back into the community

What You Should Bring:

  • PHOTO ID
  • Social security cards for each individual appearing in your tax returns;
  • Wage and earning statements (Form W-2) from all employers; SSA-1099, showing Social Security Benefits; all types of 1099 forms; 1099-B forms, accompanied by documentation showing the original asset purchase prices and sales proceeds.
  • Form 1098 documenting your mortgage interest, mortgage insurance payments, and property tax payments; documentation to verify medical expenses, charitable contributions, and child care payments; any other relevant documentation related to your income and deductions;
  • A copy of your previous year's tax return;
  • Bank account and bank routing numbers, both of which can be found on a check from your checkbook, if you want an automatic deposit of your Federal and State Tax Refunds into your checking account.
