I grew up in Old Ruth, a small mining town in eastern Nevada. While attending college, I worked in the open-pit mining industry during the summers and later spent a year working in an underground mine. I've also spent time as a framer in the home construction industry, but perhaps one of the most enjoyable employment experiences I've ever had over the years were the nine summers I spent on horseback riding the High Uinta Mountains all day every day monitoring the trail systems for the US Forest Service.
My interests throughout most of my life centered around baseball, basketball, and various fitness activities. I have since decided all of that was too much for the bones and gristle of an old guy. However, for the past eight years one of my "hobbies" has been riding my motorcycle to distant places. I've ridden throughout most of the western states and into Canada. There's nothing like riding to places you've never been before despite rain, wind, heat, cold, fatigue, and sometimes deer when you least expect one. I also enjoy spending time with my family. My wife and I have five sons and five grandchildren.
I selected education as a life-long career, because I enjoy helping others find their way. Dixie State University is a great place to learn and to work. We're all fortunate to be here.

Mike Olson joined the Dixie State University Academic Advisement Department in August 2009.
A native from Spanish Fork Utah, Olson graduated from Dixie with a degree in English technical and professional writing in 2008, and an Associate of Science Degree from Snow College.
During the past 11 years, Olson has worked as a basketball coach at both Snow College and Dixie State. In that capacity he focused on the overall academic success of each student athlete. During his time at Snow, the basketball program graduated 90% of their student athletes. Since moving to Dixie State University in 2005, the basketball program has seen a 100% graduation rate.
Mike and his wife, Janille, have two children, Madilyn (5) and Maleea (3). As a family they enjoy their time at Snowbird, hiking and cheering for the Boston Red Sox.

Mace Jacobson joined the TRiO Student Support Services team as an academic advisor and tutoring coordinator in January of 2012. She has spent 15 years working with students in the Student Services arena at Davis Applied Technology Center in Kaysville, Utah, and at Dixie State University. Mace is committed to helping students discover and develop their strengths and passions toward success.
Mace earned an Associate's Degree from Dixie State University and then attended Utah State University as a Theatre Arts student. She spent 10 years acting in repertory theatre companies and guest directing. She married fellow thespian, Matt Jacobson, after spending a summer in a repertory theatre company together. They raised four children and shared many happy years before Matt's passing in 2008. The family keeps his passion for high adventure and humanitarian service alive!
Previous to her work in student services, Mace spent 10 years in the banking industry before becoming interested in education. At that point she enrolled in the Southern Utah University education program. For four years she put her teacher education knowledge to work at a learning center in northern Utah instructing and creating curriculum. She ultimately completed her Bachelor's degree in Organization and Leadership Communication here at Dixie State University, proving educational goals are always attainable for those who never let the dream die.
Mace is volunteer director and board member with the Roene B. DiFiore Center for Arts in Education, a center dedicated to bringing the arts and education into the lives of young people; founder of AHA!, a critical thinking and service leadership non-profit organization; and a self-proclaimed learning addict. She defines a learning addiction as, a strong desire to acquire more knowledge than can ever be remembered or used: addicted to learning "stuff"!

Robert M. (Bob) Donaldson is the Founding Principal and former senior Managing Partner of Executive Career Services LLC (ECS) in southern California. He brings to the individual and client company over 20 years of corporate experience and 23 years of executive consulting and career management and executive coaching experience.
ECS was founded in 1981 and grew to be one of the largest independent career management and executive coaching firms in southern California with five offices and over 20 members of the professional and administrative staff. ECS's principal office is located in Irvine, California. ECS was an active partner company of Outplacement International from 1991 to 2003. The company received numerous awards for excellence in professional referrals and operating performance.
Starting in 1960, with a BS degree in Industrial Management from Brigham Young University, Bob rose from a staff Industrial Engineer at Smith Corona Marchant to become the senior human resources and administrative officer for Pacific Lighting Corporation, a multi-billion holding company with such assets as the Southern California Gas Company, Fredrick's Homes, Dunn Properties and others. Here Bob reported to the Chairman and CEO. In addition he completed the Executive Management Program from Claremont College under the tutelage of Peter Drucker.
In addition, Bob was a board member for the southern California National Human Resources Chapter in Irvine and founded the Executive of The Year award program for human resources executives. That program is now in its 15th year. He was a member of the Presidents Southern California District Export Counsel, active in the Boys Scouts of America, and a frequent speaker at regional professional conferences and local membership groups.
Bob is the author of two books on the subject of career management. He wrote in the opinion section of our regional newspaper for over five years. He and his wife Vickie have been both been widowed and have now been remarried for nearly three years. They have a family of 11 children and 19 grandchildren between them. Bob has made his home in St George, Utah since 2003.

Cooperative Education (Co-op) and Internships provide a beneficial three-way partnership among the employer, the students, and the college. Through the Co-op Education program, employers have access to a pool of highly qualified students, who are eager to take on challenging assignments. Co-op Education is an educational concept that relates the classroom to the employment community. Students with a designated major, vocational, or career interest are assisted in locating employment that relates to their classroom studies. Ranching and horsing around outdoors pretty much sums it up for me. I even have pet Long Horn Cattle. When I am not at the college I can usually be found at one of the family ranches. Summertime I spend almost every weekend at the cabin located near the Koosharem Reservoir near Fish Lake Resort.

Taken from my weird but true files: When I touch cotton balls, I can feel the cartilage in my joints squeak, which makes me shiver and squirm. Surely I'm burning several calories a pop. So now, I'm thinking of making touching cotton balls part of my new weight-loss plan. I once thought running a marathon was a good weight-loss plan, but 26.2 miles later, I only lost four toe nails (and nearly all of my dignity), which didn't even register on the scale.

I am a lifelong learner with two associate degrees: court reporting and horse science. I graduated magna cum laude from Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a minor in Philosophy; graduated from Drake University Law School in December, 1988; and obtained my Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Phoenix in March, 2008.
I have been a licensed court reporter in the State of Iowa, licensed and practiced as an attorney in the State of Iowa from 1989 through 2001; practicing in family law litigation and later as an in-house Corporate Counsel for an international telecommunications carrier. Since 2007, I have worked as a substance abuse therapist with Southwest Behavioral Health Center. I am in the process of publishing a cookbook and am a business owner. I have been a board member for a local water company since 2003 serving as its secretary/treasurer and its certified water operator.

Mr. Brickey was born and raised in San Diego, California. He began his music studies in 4th grade playing the clarinet. In seventh grade, he discovered the tuba, and still enjoys producing the richly velvet tones of this instrument. He has performed in numerous orchestras, bands, and ensembles, including the Southwest Symphony for the past 25 years. He has taught music in public schools in Bakersfield California and here in Washington County and has been recognized for excellence in teaching. Mr. Brickey retired from the Washington County Schools in 2006. He and his wife are the parents of 8 children and 13 grandchildren. He enjoys walking, hiking, and camping. His current assignment at DSU includes teaching Music Theory, First Year Experience, and advising Music Majors.

I used to enjoy all the domestic things like reading, sewing, cooking, knitting, and crochet until I started working. Now I just waste time online. I designed and drew my own house plans. I love working logic problems, and watching "Perry Mason type" courtroom-detective drama. I am interested in nutrition and health in general, specifically alternative and preventative methods, and co-authored a book on herbal remedies in 1976. I was a stay-at-home mom for 22 years raising 7 children before entering the workforce.
