Committed to educating the "whole person," Dixie State College encourages you to take courses in physical education, the purpose of which is to teach you the benefits of life-long, wholesome physical activity. The Physical Education Department sponsors a wide variety of activity classes, several that will suit your interests and needs.
For those of you interested in majoring in physical education, the classes you find in this department will form a good basic foundation for future study. Also, with very few exceptions, these courses transfer well to in-state schools. If you plan to major in this field, plan on coming to the department offices in the Gymnasium. Make yourself acquainted and let one of the department's qualified professors help you in planning and making your stay at Dixie State College as rewarding and enjoyable as it can be. In this department you'll find the following types of courses:
Activities Courses
We live in a society where the health dangers of a sedentary life-style are obvious. These courses will allow you to develop and enjoy physical skills that will form the basis of a healthful, life-long penchant for physical and recreational activity. You may choose from such activities as tennis, racquetball, bowling, golf, basketball, volleyball, soccer, swimming, and dance.
Fitness Center
The Eccles Fitness Center provides students a state-of-the- art facility for cardiovascular exercise and weight training. Students may receive credit each quarter for getting into good physical condition.
Competitive Sports Courses
Dixie State College has several teams that compete in regional and national contests. If you are a member of one of these teams, you will take courses such as Competitive Baseball, Competitive Football, Competitive Basketball, etc. Also, team members take weight training and body conditioning courses in preparation for their sports.
Lecture Courses
In addition to the above activities and competition classes, you'll find lecture courses in such things as sports medicine, first aid, and water safety.
