(Freshman/Sophomore level) general education requirements at
Dixie State and then transfer them into a baccalaureate
(four-year) program at just about any university? Dixie
State College offers comprehensive Associate Degrees
which transfer easily to many universities, give students the
opportunity to take a wide variety of courses, and often save
students hundreds of dollars in tuition. While pursuing your Associate Degree at Dixie
State College, you can choose from a wide variety of courses in
your area of interest. This will allow you to explore
different areas of emphasis / potential majors and complete
major prerequisites while you are
completing your general education requirements.
WHAT IS AN ASSOCIATE DEGREE?
An
Associate Degree is generally a two-year degree, the completion
of which prepares college students for Bachelor Degree
programs. Students who earn an Associate of Science (AS)
or Associate of Arts (AA) from Dixie State College have
completed lower division general education requirements for a Bachelorís
Degree at any Utah college or university that grants Bachelors Degrees.
Within the AS or AA, students may also complete prerequisite and
lower division requirements for many majors. CAUTION: Certain
majors have specific general education requirements. Talk to
your advisor when selecting your general education classes.
WHAT ARE GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS?
All degrees have a general education component. General
education classes provide opportunities for students to explore
new areas while improving communication, problem-solving, and
critical thinking skills. This exploration is a critical
component of the college experience. General educations
courses often include Math, Science, Composition, Literature,
Social Sciences, Computer Literacy, Humanities, History, Fine
Arts, and many more interesting subject areas.
