English Department

Professor Darl Biniaz is chair of this department. If you have any questions, feel free to contact him at 652-7813.

For those of you interested in majoring in English, humanities, foreign language, or philosophy, the classes you find in this department will form a good basic foundation for future study. Also, with very few exceptions, these courses transfer well to in-state schools. If you plan to major in these fields, come in to the department offices in the McDonald Building. Make yourself acquainted and let one of the department's qualified professors help you in planning and making your stay at Dixie State College as rewarding and enjoyable as it can be. In this department you'll find the following courses:

    Writing and Composition Courses

As a Dixie State College student, you will be required to develop your communication skills through writing classes. Generally speaking, you'll have to take three communication classes while you're here: English 1010, English 2010, and another communication course chosen from several options. If your writing skills are insufficient for English 1010, you will be placed in a preparatory class; on the other hand, if your skills are adequate, you may enter English 1010 directly. You'll probably want to take English 1010 during your freshman year and English 2010 during your sophomore year. Don't put this requirement off till your last semesters at Dixie.
